JJAY Alejandro and Matthew Aquino led National University to a 79-69 win over Jose Rizal University on Saturday at the FAITH gym in Tanauan City, giving the Bulldogs a shot at one of the two spots allotted for Luzon-Metro Manila in the 2015 National Collegiate Championship.

Alejandro had 19 points and seven rebounds while Aquino, son of PBA great Marlou Aquino who is on a one-year residency with NU to be eligible for the UAAP next year, had 15 points on three triples and seven rebounds as the Bulldogs advanced to the final round of the Luzon-Metro Manila qualifying.

Paolo Pontejos had 22 points while Tey Teodoro added 14 for JRU.

The Bulldogs will face Southern Luzon-Bicol champion Olivarez College on Sunday, 4 p.m. at the FAITH gym in Tanauan for the right to join UAAP and NCAA champion Far Eastern University and Letran, among others, in the Elite Eight.

Technological Institute of the Philippines, which stunned Mapua in the earlier rounds of the qualifier, looks to complete its unlikely run to the Elite Eight when the Engineers take on Northern-Central Luzon champion Lyceum Northwestern University.

The Elite Eight will be a knockout stepladder tournament that also has University of Santo Tomas, San Beda, University of San Carlos, and the Visayas-Mindanao champion.
