J-Jay Alejandro shows way as young guns step up for Bulldogs in victory over Blue Eagles

NATIONAL University leaned on J-Jay Alejandro and Pao Javelona to beat Ateneo, 69-66, for its second victory in the Philippine-Australia Goodwill Basketball Invitational at the Philsports Arena.

Alejandro scored 10 points and pulled down five rebounds, while Javelona added 10 markers in a balanced scoring attack for NU as the Bulldogs’ younger and seldom-used players showed the way for the reigning UAAP champions.

NU took an 57-45 lead at the end of the third period and went on to improve their win-loss record to 2-1.

“We are giving a lot of time lalo na ’yung mga sophomores. This is just a time to give them exposure and feel out college ball,” NU coach Eric Altamirano said.

Ateneo star Kiefer Ravena returned to action after missing a game due to dehydration, scoring 14 points, while Gwyne Capacio also tallied 14 for the Blue Eagles, who dropped to 1-2.
