Remember undrafted Zamboanga kid Gino Jumao-as? He's now bound for Thai league
Gino Jumao-as will be joining countrymen Leo Avenido, Rudy Lingganay and Eric Salamat in the Kabayan Pilipinas side in the Thai league.

GINO Jumao-as has signed up with Kabayan Pilipinas, joining other Filipinos suiting up for the squad in the Thailand Basketball Super League.

Junnie Navarro, Jumao-as’ handler, said his player is scheduled to leave for Thailand next week to join the squad, which already has a 1-1 win-loss card in the league.

“Nakita nila ‘yung potential ni Gino, hindi lang nabigyan ng break sa Pilipinas,” said Navarro, quoting the coaching staff of Kabayan Pilipinas’ assessment of Jumao-as.

Jumao-as, 24, played for the San Sebastian Staglets in high school and University of the East in the UAAP after leaving his native Zamboanga for the Big City with just P500 in his pocket.

After going undrafted in the 2016 PBA rookie draft, Jumao-as will be joining former PBA players in fellow Zamboangueno Rudy Lingganay, Leo Avenido, and Eric Salamat in the Thai league.

Kabayan Pilipinas is coached by Raja Mortel, a Filipino based in Thailand who has also coached the country’s squads in the Asean Basketball League (ABL).

The Thailand Basketball Super League is also home to the likes of former Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player Marcus Douthit, James Martinez, Paul Zamar, and Jeff Viernes.
