Gianne Paolo Rivera, Clarence Tiquia star as Stallions defeat Hunters for first win in Naascu

MANUEL Luis Quezon University relied on the 1-2 punch of Gianne Paolo Rivera and Clarence Tiquia to down New Era University, 87-77, and barge into the win column in the NAASCU Season 17 basketball tournament at the RTU gym in Mandaluyong.

Rivera scored a game-high 24 points on 7-of-16 shooting, while Tiquia added 22 points, making 3 of 5 shots from the three-point line.

The Stallions outscored the Hunters, 52-34, in the middle quarters to en route to their first win after losses to Colegio de San Lorenzo (82-101) and Enderun (68-78).

Jayson Grimaldo added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Stallions, who made 19 of 32  of their two-point shots for 59 percent and nine of 24 of their three-pointers for 37 percent.

Nemesis de la Cruz paced New Era with 17 points.

St. Clare College-Caloocan clobbered AMA University, 96-68, and St. Francis defeated Philippine Christian University, 61-59.

Russel Fuentes, Junjie Hallare, import Mohamed Pare and Irven Palencia combined for 50 points for the Saints.

Genmar Bragais had 14 points and Owen Graham had 13 points and nine  rebounds for AMA.
