ONE defensive stop turned into a go-signal for a unique chance to improve for teen basketball player Gian Mamuyac.

The Batang Gilas standout was surprised that his block on Steph Curry would spread like wildfire on social media, but is now looking forward to what could come next.

“’Di ko in-expect na isang pangyayari, sa isang block lang, biglang naging (trending),” said Mamuyac while waiting to guest in the halftime show of the PBA Governors’ Cup TV coverage on Friday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Recalling the magical moment during a game in Curry’s SC30 Asia Under Armour Tour in Taiwan, Mamuyac said he was only acting on his defensive instincts against the reigning NBA MVP, anticipating the Warriors star's move while he was in his sweet spot with the shot clock winding down.

“Ako na 'yung pinaka-malapit eh, two steps after the half-court line, normal range niya yun, so nagulat na lang ako biglang nangyari yun,” the 6-foot-1 shooting guard said. “Instinct na rin lang talaga.”

Curry acknowledged the block was clean, saying it was 'great defense' as he exchanged a high-five with Mamuyac.

Now, the 17-year-old Ateneo rookie is embracing the possible opportunities as he was invited to Curry’s camp in the US after winning MVP honors in the Taiwan leg.

“That alone, maganda na yung competition,” Mamuyac said.
