AMA Titans stun ertswhile unbeaten RTU Thunder in Naascu basketball tournament

AMA University pulled the rug from under erstwhile unbeaten Rizal Technological University, 80-67, in the 2017 NAASCU men's basketball tournament at the RTU gym in Mandaluyong.

Genmar Bragais scored 23 points on 11 of 19 shooting for AMA, which outscored RTU, 45-31, in the second and third quarters to win pulling away.

Joseph Celso added 16 points and Fil-Canadian Owen Graham contributed 11 points and a game-high 19 rebounds for the Titans.

Cyrus Tabi and Kerr Bangeles led the Thunder with 18 points apiece.

"The players executed our game plan well. They played well as a team offensively and defensively," said MA coach Mark Herrera.

Colegio de San Lorenzo outsteadied Our Lady of Fatima University, 84-78, in overtime.

The Blue Griffins leaned on the hot hands of Jonjon Gabriel and Jan Formento to frustrate the Phoenix and keep the solo lead with four straight victories in Group B.

Gabriel sent the game into overtime with a layup with 19 seconds left. He finished with 31 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks for CdSL, which bucked the loss of African import Soulemane Chabi Yo due to injury early in the game.

Formento added 11 points, including back-to-back triples at the start of the extra period.

St. Clare College-Caloocan beat Lyceum of Subic Bay, 88-73.

Aris Dionisio and Rafael Rebugio scored 14 points apiece for the Caloocan City-based Saints, who improved to 4-1.
