FCVBA off to solid start in Asean Veteran cage meet with rout of Sarawak in 60+ division

THE Filipino-Chinese Veterans Basketball Association (FCVBA)-Philippines beat Sarawak, 42-25, on Monday at the start of the 25th Asean Veteran Basketball Tournament 60-above division at the Chiang Kai Shek College Gym.

Julio Cruz, one of the standouts of University of the East during its title run in 1978, tallied seven points and nine rebounds to emerge as the Freego Best Player of the match to lead the Filipino squad to the victory in their debut game.

Also contributing for FCVBA was Joseph Whang, who had seven points in the contest.

Former La Salle cager Kenneth Yap and Jose Lao added six points apiece, while Conrad Siy and Freego owner Eduard Tio chipped in four points each.

In other matches in the 60-above class, Meteor-Indonesia defeated KLVBC-Malaysia, 53-30, while Hatyai-Thailand beat Brunei, 64-33. Miri Kinsar-Malaysia won over Zaap-Thailand, 63-46.

More than 400 players are taking part in the meet that also has 40-above and 50-above divisions.
