Fatima, St. Clare squeak past semis foes to arrange finals showdown in Naascu

OUR Lady of Fatima University and St. Clare College arranged a titular showdown after capturing their respective semifinal rubber matches in the 16th National Athletic Association for Schools, Colleges, and Universities (Naascu) on Sunday at the Rizal Technological University gym.

The OLFU Phoenix needed an extra period to beat Philippine Christian University, 91-81, while the St. Clare Saints eliminated Lyceum Subic Bay, 83-74, in Game Three to move into the championship series.

Jerome Juanico scored 20 points to pace the top-ranked Phoenix, who will play against the Saints in the best-of-three finals starting on Tuesday, 4 p.m. at the Makati Coliseum and will be aired on Basketball TV.

Michael De Leon had 27 points to lead the Saints in their return to the finals where they will hope to claim the title this time after bowing to Centro Escolar University last year.

The Saints won even with the ejection of head coach Jino Manansala.
