FLYING V broke free late in the fourth period to beat FEU, 78-68 in a tuneup game in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup on Sunday in San Juan.

Former PBA player Eric Salamat had 22 points, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals for the Thunder.

Jeron Teng and Thomas Torres missed the game due to a previous commitment but Flying V coach Eric Altamirano also got big contributions from Gab Banal, who scored 17, and Oda Tampus, who added 11.

Aris Dionisio had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds to go with three blocks.

While he was happy with the team's balanced attack, Altamirano said it was defense that really helped the Thunder pull through.

"Defensively we did a good job," said Altamirano.

The Thunder seized control in the final three minutes, with Tampus' basket putting the Thunder ahead 75-63.

Ron Denison scored five straight points to pull FEU to within seven, 68-75, but three shots from the charity stripe by Salamat sealed the win for the Thunder.

Denison scored 23 points and had five rebounds.
