NATIONAL University coach Eric Altamirano said Alvin Patrimonio is perfect for the role of big man coach as the Bulldogs build up for their UAAP campaign.

The four-time PBA MVP was recently hired by NU following his stint in a similar role with University of Santo Tomas. And Altamirano couldn't be any more pleased, saying the young Bulldogs have a lot to learn from the PBA legend.

“He just came in. His job is to help the bigs. We have a lot of bigs that are still young and needs guidance. He is a big help for us,” said Altamirano.

The hiring has paved the way for a reunion for Patrimorio and Altamirano, who was a rookie PBA coach when Purefoods captured the 1997 All-Filipino crown against Gordon’s Gin, now Barangay Ginebra.

Altamirano knows what Patrimonio can bring to the table.

“I’ve coached him before and I know what he can do. His leadership and his mere presence, malaking bagay na ‘yun to inspire the boys,” Altamirano said.

Patrimonio holds a concurrent position as team manager of Star in the PBA but the basketball legend said it won't be in conflict with his role with NU.
