Diliman Blue Dragons end Olivarez Sea Lions’ win streak at six

ALEX Diakhite put on another stellar performance as Diliman College snapped Olivarez College’s six-game winning run with a 66-55 victory on Tuesday in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League Summer Invitational at the Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.

The 6-foot-7 Diakhite scored 34 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Blue Dragons posted their third straight win and fifth in seven games.

Diakhite, from Gabon, was at his best in the first half that saw the Renzy Bajar-mentored Diliman College take a 36-22 advantage.

Rick Gerero had 18 points for Diliman College, which needs to hurdle its two remaining games and hopes that Olivarez falter once again to secure the top spot.

The No. 1 seed after the double-round eliminations enjoy a twice-to-beat advantage in the finals.

National University posted its fourth win in eight games by downing College of St. Benilde, 92-85, in the tournament backed by Ever Bilena-Blackwater, Smart, Advanced Solution, Inc. and Manila Bulletin.

John Clemente fired 15 points to lead five NU players in double figures.

Matt Johnson scored 19 and RR Pagulayan had 16 points for NU in the preseason tournament featuring UCBL, NCAA and UAAP teams.
