Sources: Derrick Pumaren takes on new role as GM for CEU after Warriors exit
With CEU, Pumaren is now tasked with a bigger role as he will be in-charge of all basketball-related affairs of the Scorpions.

DERRICK Pumaren is taking on a new role as general manager of the Centro Escolar University basketball team, sources told SPIN.ph.

A source also said Pumaren will formally be introduced to school officials on Thursday.

Pumaren will now be with CEU after being relieved of his duties as head coach of University of the East in the UAAP.

Prior to UE, Pumaren led La Salle to a UAAP crown in 1990, and was also a champion coach in the PBA, leading the RFM franchise Sunkist to two titles in 1995.

Pumaren coached UE for three seasons where he had a 12-30 win-loss slate, playing mostly with an all-Filipino lineup during his tenure with the Red Warriors.

With CEU, Pumaren is now tasked with a bigger role as he will be in-charge of all basketball-related affairs of the Scorpions, one of the most successful college programs outside the UAAP and the NCAA.

Even with Pumaren's appointment, there will be no shake-up in the coaching ranks as Yong Garcia is still the head coach of the Scorpions. He guided CEU to a finals victory in the first season of the UCBL.
