JRU Bombers shake off slow start to beat USJR Jaguars for third win in Filoil Cup

JOSE Rizal University romped to its third straight win, defeating University of San Jose Recoletos, 75-58, on Wednesday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.

Cris de la Paz scored 21 points and Paolo Pontejos added 13 as the Heavy Bombers took the early lead in Group A. They beat Far Eastern University and College of Saint Benilde in their first two games.

However, JRU only got to pull away in the second half as USJR kept the game close early and trailed, 32-33, at halftime.

“Slow start kami. Walang aggressiveness eh. They were just walking,” JRU coach Vergel Meneses said.

Miguel Gastador had 17 points, while Kevin Villafranca added 11 markers for the Jaguars, who have lost two straight games.
