CHIANG Kai Shek College completed the quarterfinal cast in the 5th Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship (PSSBC) MEC Networks Cup after beating De La Salle-Zobel, 54-37, on Tuesday at the Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym in Quezon City.

The 6-foot-3 Jonas Tibayan, a mainstay of the Batang Gilas junior national team, had 18 points and 17 rebounds as the Blue Dragons completed a sweep of Group B play.

“From the start, very active siya off the ball which is why he was getting the rebounds,” Chiang Kai Shek College coach Goldwin Monteverde said of Tibayan.

La Salle Greenhills also reached the quarterfinals from Group B with a 1-1 win-loss record.

Far Eastern University-Diliman also clinched a quarterfinal seat after beating Hope Christian High School, 82-71, for a 1-1 mark in Group C.

Mapua nipped Adamson, 73-72, in a thrilling game to finish the elimination round with a 2-0 win-loss record in Group D.

Romuel Junsay had 29 points for the Red Robins, who recovered after scoring only nine points in the second quarter to trail 28-36 at halftime.

National University also swept Group A with an 83-62 victory over Arellano for a 2-0 win-loss record in the tournament sponsored by Ché Lu Bar & Grill, Dickies Underwear, Blackwater, Poly Gloss Automotive Polyurethane System, Ironcon Builders, Hapee Toothpaste and Freego.
