CKSC's John Galinato goes for a drive against Mapua.

CHIANG Kai Shek College and Adamson arranged a title showdown in the 5th Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship (PSSBC) MEC Networks Cup after overcoming separate semifinal opponents on Saturday at the SGS gym in Quezon City.

John Galinato had 20 points while Donn Lim added 17 points as the reigning champion Blue Dragons defeated Mapua, 92-78, while Encho Serrano finished with 17 points and eight rebounds in the Baby Falcons’ 83-77 victory over La Salle Greenhills.

The Blue Dragons and the Baby Falcons face off in the championship game on Sunday, 3:15 p.m. at the SGS gym.

Both teams are coached by Goldwin Monteverde, who is expected to be in the stands where he will leave it to his assistant coaches to handle their respective teams in the championship.

CKSC is seeking to become the first team to win back-to-back crowns in the PSSBC while Adamson is looking to become the first UAAP squad to capture the title of the tournament also backed by Ché Lu Bar & Grill, Dickies Underwear, Blackwater, Poly Gloss Automotive Polyurethane System, Ironcon Builders, Hapee Toothpaste and Freego.

Mapua and La Salle Greenhills battle for third place at 1:15 p.m.

After squandering a 14-point lead early in the second quarter, the CKSC Blue Dragons exploded for 29 points in the third through the hot hands of Galinato, Lim and Jonas Tibayan while holding the Red Robins to just 13 points to turn what was expected to be a close contest into a rout.

Making up for a so-so showing in the first two quarters that saw the Red Robins grab a 56-45 halftime lead, Galinato scattered 20 points, including a triple that helped spark the team’s early salvo in the third.
