Mapua blasts Webmasters, eyes payback against Malaysia in Cebu Mayors Cup semis

CEBU CITY – Mapua got back to its winning ways and routed University of Cebu, 98-84, in the Cebu City Mayors Cup Invitational basketball tournament on Sunday at the Talisay City Sports Complex here.

Coming off a shocking 87-88 upset at the hands of the Malaysian national team, the Cardinals vented their ire on the Webmasters, who they held to a lowly 37 percent clip from the field on the way to their second win in three outings.

Allwell Oraeme led the way for Mapua with 20 points, while Tura dela Rosa added 11.

CJ Isit had 10 markers for the Cardinals, who gets the chance to redeem themselves against the Malaysians in their semifinal encounter on Monday night.

Darrell Shane Menina paced the Webmasters with 28 points, while Earl Montilla contributed 15.

In the second match, Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) runner-up University of San Carlos blasted Malaysia, 99-81, and will face UC in the other semifinal match-up.
