IT’S one step backwards, two steps forward for Blackwater.
The team’s playoff hopes in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup slowly slipping away, the Elite are now focused instead on the future that they decided to bring back import Henry Walker to take over from Jarrid Famous.
Walker’s stint with the Elite begins shortly after the All-Star break and will stretch all the way until thseason-ending Governors Cup.
The 30-year-old former NBA player is set to arrive in the country on Tuesday morning and will play his first game with the team on May 30 against the NLEX Road Warriors.
At 6-foot-6, Walker is undersized in a conference where a height limit of 6-foot-10 is set.
But with an 0-6 record and at the bottom of the standings, the Elite deemed it best to bring in Walker earlier than scheduled in a bid to give a lift to whatever remaining playoff hopes Blackwater has.
At the same time, Walker’s presence also meant preparing the team as early as this for its campaign in the final conference of the season.
Walker steered the franchise to a first ever playoffs appearance last year in the Governors Cup, stretching the twice-to-beat Meralco Bolts to a winner-take-all battle for a berth in the semifinals.
