Escandor comes out firing as Ateneo de Davao routs Assumption in DACS debut

ATENEO de Davao waylaid a hapless St. Peter’s College-Toril, 92-38, on Friday at the start of the 2016 Davao Association of Catholic Schools (DACS) basketball tournament at the Philippine Women’s College Gymnasium.

The Blue Knights, the newly-crowned Filoil Flying V Invitational champions, flexed their muscles and bared their intent to wrest the title from rival Assumption College of Davao.

Prolific forward Francis Gabriel Escandor had a sizzling performance with 15 points while flashy Axel Doromal also had an auspicious DACS debut in a Blue Knights uniform with eight points.

Last year, Doromal carried Assumption past ADDU in the finals.Now he has teamed up with Escandor and the hardworking Ion Angeles to form the Blue Knights’ new 'Big Three.'

In other games, San Pedro College beat St. John Paul College of Davao 54-50, University of the Immaculate Conception routed Our Lady of Fatima Academy 82-18, and Holy Cross Mintal won over Holy Cross Babak 54-34.

The winner of the DACS cagefest will represent the unit to the annual Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) meet, the eliminator for the regionals and eventually the Palarong Pambansa.
