Arellano Chiefs, Perpetual Altas arrange title showdown in Fr. Martin Cup Collegiate Open
Jio Jalalon and the Chiefs look to score a morale-boosting offseason win.

ARELLANO and Perpetual Help arranged a finals duel in the 12th Fr. Martin Cup Collegiate Open basketball tournament after hurdling separate rivals on Sunday at the Far Eastern University gym.

Jiovani Jalalon scored 25 points as the Chiefs downed Manuel L. Quezon University, 77-73, while the Bright Akhuetie scored 13 points as the Altas defeated Philippine Merchant Marine School in overtime, 62-58.

The all-NCAA finals match-up is set on Saturday, 10 a.m. at the San Beda gym.

The Chiefs hope to finish on top in the Collegiate Open after finishing runner-up to Ateneo in the Division 2 Cup.

Kevin Oliveria sent the game into overtime after splitting his two free throws with 23.2 seconds left, 54-54, before Akhuetie hit two crucial baskets to pull off the win for the Altas.

Perpetual Help beat Ateneo, 72-68, while Arellano won by walkover against Mapua in the quarterfinals.
