KENT Salado proved his billing as one of the up-and-coming guards in the NCAA as he carried Arellano, playing without star Jio Jalalon, to an 80-78 win over San Sebastian on Friday in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.

Salado led Arellano with 18 points and nine assists while playing heavy minutes due to the absence of his backcourt partner Jalalon, who left for Bangkok on Friday as part of the Gilas cadet squad to the Seaba Cup.

Donald Gumaru added 16 points for the Chiefs, who improved their mark to 4-1.

Arellano fell behind 52-35 at the half but slowly chipped away the deficit before taking the victory.
