NATIONAL Capital Region, Soccskargen, and Caraga posted two victories each on Sunday in the opening day of the Palarong Pambansa secondary basketball tournament in Antique.
NCR, composed of a combined squad from Adamson and Chiang Kai Shek College, defeated Zamboanga Peninsula in a thrilling contest, 87-84, before trouncing Mimaropa, 69-28, to open hostilities.
Soccskargen, meanwhile, edged Eastern Visayas, 70-65, then defeated Zamboanga Peninsula, 59-37, while Caraga downed Central Visayas, 59-57, and Northern Mindanao, 97-91.
Encho Serrano had 28 points while Gerry Abadiano had 20 in NCR’s win over Zamboanga. Abadiano topscored for NCR with 17 points in the match against Mimaropa.
In other results, Region 1 defeated Northern Mindanao, 97-91, while Central Visayas won over Bicol Region, 88-72.
