LYCEUM capped off its first round campaign with a 69-55 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College on Thursday in the 91st NCAA seniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Cameroonian import Victor Nguidjol had 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Joseph Gabayni added 11 and nine as the two bigs showed the way in the wire-to-wire win for the Pirates, who finished the first round with a 2-7 win-loss slate and snapped their five-game skid.

“We try to enjoy the process and not the results,” said Lyceum coach Topex Robinson. “It’s been tough for us but it’s a good start for us. We lost seven. We can win seven straight by chance. We just have to keep playing.”

After scoring just nine points in the third quarter, Lyceum bounced back with Nguidjol and Gabayni combining for 13 of the Pirates’ 20 points in the fourth period.

“They are not really the focal point but we just tried to make it a paint game. The good thing about it is that we didn’t really set up for anything. Most of the points were coming off their hustle. We won the 50-50 balls and that’s big for us,” said Robinson.

Francis Munsayac had 15 points for the Generals, who suffered their second straight loss for a 2-7 card.
