New Lyceum coach Topex Robinson's goal: Turn Pirates into instant Final Four contenders
New Lyceum coach Topex Robinson takes over the Pirates starting this February.

TOPEX Robinson wants to transform the Lyceum Pirates into Final Four contenders in the NCAA just like what he did with the San Sebastian Stags in the post-Pinatubo Trio era.

Robinson will formally take over the Pirates’ coaching job this February and couldn’t hide his excitement as he takes on a new chapter in his career.

"It's a new chapter and oh yes (I'm excited)," said Robinson.
"We want to work on our goal. Short term is to make it to the Final Four, but it's going to be a challenge for us, the coaching staff that's going to come in here, and that's what I'm really looking forward to."

The former San Sebastian coach took the Stags to an improbable semifinal finish following the departure of the team’s celebrated trio of Calvin Abueva, Ronald Pascual, and Ian Sangalang.

Robinson stepped down as Stags coach early December last year after three years with the Recto-based squad.
He brought his alma matter to a runner up finish in the 2001 NCAA season and a title run in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League.

Robinson then gave up the post midway in the 2012 NCAA season, but returned in 2013 to lead San Sebastian to a Final Four stint behind a team with no superstar.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t do the same last year when the Stags tumbled to a  5-13 win-loss record and missed the Final Four.
For Robinson though, everything is all in the past now as he looks forward in making Lyceum a better team come the league’s91st season.
Barely inheriting the same roster left by long time Lyceum mentor Boni Tan, Robinson hopes to keep the lineup intact while adding new players to make the team more competitive.
"I saw the potential of the players that they have right now and hopefully we could retain the old lineup and add a few more para mas maging, hopefully, maganda ang showing namin next season," he said.
He will start his training with Lyceum next week.
