Vergel Meneses hopes for no more letdowns from Paolo Pontejos in JRU's push for Final Four

JOSE Rizal University coach Vergel Meneses was pleased to see Paolo Pontejos bounce back fast from a dismal outing against EAC with a standout performance in leading the Heavy Bombers' attack during Friday's 71-63 win over Benilde at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Against the winless Blazers, the diminutive guard frolicked with an all-around game, leading the team with 14 points, four rebounds, and three assists while helping the Heavy Bombers take their eighth win in 14 matches.

"Usually ang good player, hindi nagkakaroon ng back-to-back na masamang laro yan. Every game lang focus niya [sa] sarili niya," Meneses said of his prized guard, who was a non-factor in the loss to the Generals last Tuesday with a measly four points.

"Kung anong ilalaro niya, yun ang ilalaro ng JRU," he added.

Meneses hopes for no more letdowns from his ace guard and the rest of the Heavy Bombers, for that matter, as JRU makes their push for a Final Four berth.

"We have to win four more. Nagawa nga namin last year e," said Meneses. "As long as we stay disciplined (kaya namin manalo).”

Pontejos agreed with his coach.

"Bawal na talaga kami matalo e. Sayang yung talo namin sa EAC. Ngayon tuloy umaasa pa kami matalo Mapua para magkaron ng chance," he said.
