EAC Generals survive scare, deal winless CSB Blazers another heartbreaking loss
Hamadou Laminou brings the hammer down for EAC. Dante Peralta

EMILIO Aguinaldo College fended off Benilde, 65-62, in the battle between also-ran teams in the 92nd NCAA basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre on Tuesday.

Jorem Morada finished with 18 points and helped the Generals stave off a Benilde comeback by making three of the last four free throws.

The Generals improved to 6-11, while the Blazers are still struggling to chalk up their first win in the tournament with a 0-17 win-loss card. Benilde will face Lyceum in their final assignment on Friday.

The Generals built a 62-53 lead entering the last two minutes, which was enough to withstand a Blazers rally.

Carlo Young hit a three-pointer while Fajarito made a jumper with 1:05 to go as Benilde closed in, 62-58.

Morada sank one from the foul line, before four straight points by Fajarito helped the Blazers pull to within one, 63-62. Morada then answered with a pair of free throws with 17.1 remaining, 65-62.

Unfortunately for the Blazers, Carlo Young botched a three-pointer as time expired that could have sent the game into overtime.

"Kala namin tapos na yung game nung up kami ng seven points. Sabi ko hindi puwedeng ganun, kailangan talaga solid hanggang mag-buzzer," said EAC coach Ariel Sison.

Young paced Benilde with 14 points, while Clement Leutcheu had a double-double outing of 12 points and 12 rebounds.
