JIO Jalalon went berserk as Arellano blasted Mapua, 95-82 in the 92nd NCAA basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre on Tuesday.

Jalalon erupted with 35 points on top of five rebounds, five assists, and five steals to help the Chiefs clinch the first twice-to-beat edge with a superior 14-3 win-loss haul.

Jalalon joined forces with Donald Gumaru in the final stretch, combining for 17 points in a 19-1 tear inside the final five minutes that turned a 74-75 deficit into a breakaway.

Gumaru had 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting clip from beyond the arc. His last triple came in the 1:58 mark of the payoff period to bury the Cardinals for good, 90-76.

Kent Salado added 15 markers.

"They (Mapua) came to fight. I just told my players to go to our strength. Execute lang, which was not evident in the first two quarters," said AU coach Jerry Codniera.

CJ Isit paced the Cardinals with 25 points, four rebounds, five assists, and two steals but his all-around effort went for naught against a high-octane Arellano led by Jalalon, Salado, and Gumaru.

Darell Menina had 16 markers, while Allwell Oraeme chipped in 13 poitns and 20 rebounds for the Cardinals, who now hold an 11-6 card.
