San Beda regains shooting touch as streaking Red Lions send EAC Generals on brink of elimination

TALKS of San Beda's offensive struggles were quickly put to rest as the Red Lions put on a scorching shooting display early on to blow out Emilio Aguinaldo, 88-51, in the NCAA Season 93 on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Center.

The Red Lions caught fire from three-point territory to start the game behind the hot hands of JV Mocon and the unheralded Franz Abuda to create separation from their foes early and set the stage for a breezy victory.

The duo drained two three pointers apiece to offset a 5-0 start from the Generals and take a 26-11 lead after 10 minutes - a lead they continued to pad on for the rest of the game.

This was a stark contrast to the Red Lions' win over Perpetual  last Tuesday where they put out an erratic offensive night in the 55-50 result.

The win was San Beda's 14th straight in the tournament as they improved to 15-1 for the tournament. The Generals, on the other hand, fell to 6-10 and a win from the Letran Knights over the Lyceum Pirates in the nightcap of the triple header would formally boot them out of contention.

"Again, we're happy we got this win and I hope that with our play today, we’ll be consistent about it until the end of the playoffs. I’m really happy everybody stepped up today," said San Beda head coach Boyet Fernandez.

"AC (Soberano) stepped up for Davon [Potts], Robert [Bolick] played well, JV has been consistent. Credit to the boys for getting this one against EAC and hopefully we prepare against Letran next Friday and Lyceum next next week," he added.

AC Soberano paced the Red Lions with 17 points, making 5-of-7 threes.

Mocon added 15 points and 12 boards as Donald Tankoua and Abuda scored 10 apiece.

Hard on himself for failing to run the San Beda offense to perfection, Bolick bounced back in a big way by dishing out 12 assists.

The Red Lions as a whole drained 14-of-28 attempts from downtown.

Sydney Onwubere was the lone bright spot for the Generals with 22 points and six rebounds.
