ART de la Cruz took over a San Beda side missing its two top players as the Red Lions beat Mapua, 102-89, on Saturday in the opening game of the NCAA Season 91 seniors basketball at the Mall of Asia Arena.

De la Cruz had 27 points, 17 rebounds, and six assists as the Red Lions won without Baser Amer and Ola Adeogun, who are recovering from injuries sustained during Hapee’s campaign in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup.

“It’s not all about who is our No. 1 player. It’s from No. 1 to 15,” said San Beda coach Jamike Jarin after his first collegiate league win.

“Anybody from our team can deliver not just in scoring. It’s a team effort all the time.”

Mapua did not play as badly as the final score suggests, and the match was actually tied at 62 in the third period.

“We had a lot of mistakes. But credit to the coaching staff of Mapua, they were into the game. The score didn’t show it but they were into the game,” said Jarin.

Pierre Tankoua and Radge Tongco had 18 points each for the Red Lions, while Ryusei Koga added 16 markers.

Josan Nimes scored 23 points, while Allwell Oraeme had 13 points, 16 rebounds, and four blocks for Mapua.
