San Beda starts bid for eighth straight NCAA juniors title with rout of Letran

SAN Beda started its bid for an eighth straight NCAA juniors basketball title with a 107-74 rout of Letran on Monday at The Arena in San Juan City.

Up 46-33, at the half, the Cubs took full control in the third period, with Joshua Tagala, Evan Nelle and Carlo Obienza  leading the way.

Tagala had game-highs of 19 points and seven steals, Nelle finished with 17 points, eight assists and six steals and Obienza had 16 points, including three triples.

"Our goal is to win one game at a time and see wait for what happens next," said Red Cubs coach JB Sison.

The Cubs won last year’s finals over the Arellano Braves in three games.

Malayan-Mapua crushed Jose Rizal, 86-64, to grab a share of the early lead.

Romuel Junsay had 15 points for the Red Robins, Bryan Samudo added 14, Warren Bonifacio scored 11, while Brian Lacap and Sherwin Concepcion had 10 each.
