PH youth coach Jamike Jarin lined up to be next San Beda coach after Boyet Fernandez
Jamike Jarin comes in with impressive credentials as the soft-spoken young mentor has long been the defensive coach of Talk 'N Text in the PBA aside from his roles with Ateneo's senior and junior teams and the national youth program.

NATIONAL youth coach Jamike Jarin is set for a new challenge in the collegiate stage when he comes back from the Philippines' campaign in the Fiba Under-17 World Championship and the Fiba-Asia Under-18 wars.

A source told Spin.ph that the longtime Ateneo Blue Eagles and Talk 'N Text assistant coach is already lined up to take over the head-coaching job of the San Beda Red Lions at the end of the NCAA campaign.

The five-peat-seeking Red Lions are on their last season with current head coach Boyet Fernandez, who is set to handle the NLEX Warriors in their debut in the PBA next season.

Fernandez has won a title with the Red Lions in the NCAA, but his six championships in seven conferences with NLEX in the D-League made him the logical choice for the new Manny V. Pangilinan squad in the PBA.

Jarin comes in with impressive credentials as the soft-spoken young mentor has long been the defensive coach of Talk 'N Text in the PBA aside from his roles with Ateneo's senior and junior teams and the national youth program.

More importantly, Jarin was able to lead an unheralded and undersized Philippine Under-16 team to the Fiba World Championship by finishing second to powerhouse China in the Fiba-Asia tilt last year.

“Siya na ang pinangalanan, mukhang alam na ni MVP. And I think, Jamike deserves it. He is the most ready coach among the youngsters in our coaching pool,” said the source who asked not to be named.

However, sources from the San Beda community bared Jarin's looming appointment faces opposition from some alumni, although Jarin is a product of the school having spent his grade school (1982) and high school (1986) days there.

The last alumnus to take on the job was former Red Cubs star Ronnie Magsanoc, who led San Beda to the championship in his only season with the team in 2012.

Fernandez's current coaching staff San Beda includes former Sta. Lucia coach Adonis Tierra, JV Sison, Ford Arao, and former PBA rookie-MVP Benjie Paras.

Another source told Spin.ph that the MVP group will not make an announcement on the appointments of Fernandez and Jarin until the end of the Red Lions' campaign.
