Perpetual Help spikers whip Letran for 50th straight win dating back to 2010

FOUR-time defending champion University of Perpetual Help scored its 50th consecutive win dating back to 2010 in the men’s division of the NCAA volleyball tournament, downing Letran, 25-20, 25-20, 25-20, on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Rey Taneo and Allan Jay Sala-An scored 12 points apiece, while Neil Barry Ytorzaita had 11 as the Altas took the top spot with a 3-0 record.

Emilio Aguinaldo College joined Perpetual Help on top after it clobbered Jose Rizal University, 25-12, 25-17, 25-19.

Howard Mojica unloaded 17 points, 14 on spikes, to lead the way for the Generals.

In the women’s division, four-peat seeking Perpetual Help defeated Letran, 25-21, 25-17, 27-25, to also grab the solo lead with a 3-0 slate.

Ana James Diocareza led all scorers with 19 points, while Ma. Lourdes Clemente and Shyrra Cabriana chipped in 14 and 10 markers, respectively.

JRU survived EAC, 25-22, 13-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-12, behind Maria Shola Alvarez, Rosali Pepito, Laela Lopez and Iriis Oliveros.

Alvarez finished with 24 points, while Pepito had 16, Lopez added 15, and Oliveros contributed 11 as JRU improved to a 2-1 slate.
