RICCI Rivero scored 40 points to lift College of Saint Benilde-La Salle Greenhills to an 88-71 win over Lyceum on Tuesday to clinch the No. 4 spot in the NCAA Season 91 juniors basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The 17-year-old brother of La Salle sophomore Prince Rivero had 17 points in the first quarter, then scored five in a late second quarter run that put the Junior Blazers ahead, 51-41.

Rivero, who had 26 points in the first half, displayed his athletic ability, scoring on a dunk with seven minutes left in the fourth to put the Greenies ahead, 75-56.

Rivero finished with a double-double as he also grabbed 10 rebounds for the Junior Blazers, who will play Arellano to begin the stepladder playoffs. The schedule will be announced later.

“Actually hindi ko in-expect na ganun mangyayari,” said Rivero about his performance. “I just kept praying to God that he will give me another chance to bring my team to the Final Four.”

Ian Herrera had 12 points and 12 rebounds for LSGH, which ended the eliminations at 11-7 to force a tie with the Junior Pirates.

Mclaude Guadana had 16 points and nine rebounds for Lyceum.
