Red Robins down Greenies to secure No. 2 semis seeding with one elims game to spare

MAPUA secured the No. 2 spot and a twice-to-beat incentive in the semifinals of the NCAA Season 92 juniors basketball tournament after defeating College of Saint Benilde-La Salle Greenhills, 75-59, on Monday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Red Robins hold a 14-3 win-loss slate with one game to go in their elimination-round schedule.

The Greenies slipped to 13-5, setting up a playoff for the No. 3 spot with Arellano, which lost to San Beda earlier in the day.

Brian Lacap had 16 of his 24 points in the third period as the Red Robins outscored the Greenies, 24-6.

“Siguro hindi sila ready kay Lacap. Binigyan sila ng three points, buti pumasok,” said Mapua Red Robins coach Randy Alcantara.

Troy Mallinllin had 16 points and nine rebounds, while Joel Cagulangan added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Greenies.
