CEBU CITY – Promising Cebuano guard Darell Shane Menina finally broke his silence about his extended absence from the Mapua Cardinals and reiterated his desire to return to the squad that gave him his big break in the Big City.

However, that would all depend on how talks between his camp and Mapua head coach Atoy Co go when the talented court general makes his return to Manila next month.

SPIN.ph was able to track down Menina after he returned from a vacation in the municipality of Boljoon, south of Cebu. He has gone AWOL from the Cardinals camp since January and reasoned that though there are offers to transfer to a different school, he is still bent on returning to Mapua.

“I’m just weighing my options and taking the time to think about things,” said Menina who after an impressive debut in the NCAA with the Cardinals averaged 9.1 points and 3.3 assists during his sophomore season.

The loss of two-time MVP Allwell Oraeme figures to place more of the scoring responsibilities on the former University of Cebu standout.

However, Menina is keen on taking his time and though he refused to divulge the issues he has with Mapua, he said that he is willing to hash those out with the Cardinals brass.

Some sources, though, have told this writer that one of Menina’s gripes is his desire to play in the PBA D-League. Co has reportedly insisted that he graduate first before being allowed to play for a D-League squad.

“May plano pa naman ako bumalik sa Mapua pero medyo hanging pa lang talaga lahat ngayon,” Menina shared.

Asked if he has somehow lost a step in the months that he has been away from Mapua, Menina assured he has been very active in different leagues in and around Cebu .
