Lyceum looks to complete first-round sweep as Pirates take on struggling Mapua Cardinals

LYCEUM goes for a first-round sweep in the NCAA Season 93 when it battles Mapua on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The Pirates survived their biggest test yet last week, storming back from a 17-point deficit to beat the Letran Knights to remain unscathed after eight games.

It was an impressive win for Lyceum, showing character in the absence of coach Topex Robinson who served his one-game ban after being ejected against Emilio Aguinaldo College two weeks ago.

With Robinson back and the confidence of these Pirates on an all-time high, finishing the round on a high note might just be mere formality when they take on a struggling Cardinals (1-6) squad missing star guard Andoy Estrella.

But despite the clear cut advantages, Lyceum isn’t taking anything the Cardinals lightly.

"Again we're heading into this game looking to inspire people. We want to play to inspire, to be an inspiration to the people who'll be watching us," said assistant coach Jeff Perlas who stepped in for coach Topex Robinson.

"We just want to continue to play the game right. A sweep would be nice but our focus is to continue to play the right way," he added.

If the Cardinals want to get a shot at pulling the improbable and being the first team to beat the Pirates, then it's gonna have to find ways to make up for the numbers of Estrella who has been the lone bright spot for them this season.

The good news for them is the steady development of Christian Bunag who put up solid numbers in their loss to San Beda last week.

Meantime, Arellano (2-5) looks to end a four game slide when it takes on College of St. Benilde (2-6) in the curtain raiser at 12 p.m. Perpetual help and Emilio Aguinaldo College, both at 3-5, clash in the 4 p.m. to cap off the triple header.
