Junior Pirates edge Altalettes; Light Bombers score rare win over Red Cubs in NCAA Juniors

VINCENT Cunanan, McLaude Guadana, and John Barba spearheaded Lyceum to an 89-86 win over Perpetual Help on Friday in the NCAA Season 93 juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Cunanan had 20 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and two steals, while Guadana nearly had a double-double after finishing with 15 markers and nine boards. Barba also had 10 points and nine boards as the Junior Pirates hiked their record to an even 3-3 win-loss slate.

LPU led by as many as 19 points in the contest.

Errol Bongay had 18 points and nine rebounds, while Jielo Razon had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Altalettes.

Meanwhile, the Jose Rizal University Light Bombers came up with a rare win over the San Beda Red Cubs, 77-70, also on Friday at the same venue.

Javine Serrano had a double-double as he finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Light Bombers, who improved their record to 2-3.

John Amores had 15 points, while John Sicat and Kobe Caballero contributed 13 and 11 markers,  respectively, for the Light Bombers, who won against the Red Cubs for the first time in three years.

JRU entered the fourth quarter tied with San Beda, 51-all, before taking the lead and holding off the Red Cubs until the final buzzer.

Peter Alfaro had 22 points for the Red Cubs, who slipped to 4-2 but stayed in third place in the standings.
