LYCEUM coach Topex Robinson sees a retooled Letran challenging for the NCAA title in the coming seasons, but Knights coach Jeff Napa says there is much work to do to become contenders.

The Pirates, seeing action for Zark’s in the D-League, had a tough two-point win over the Knights, who are carrying the colors of Wangs Basketball in the Aspirants Cup.

Robinson believes Letran should be among the teams to watch in the NCAA, with transferes Bonbon Batiller, Larry Muyang, Christian Fajarito and Fran Yu joining last year’s core of Bong Quinto, JP Calvo and Jerrick Balanza.

“They are really a scary team,” said Robinson of Letran.

“‘Yung growth nila as a group, they have a lot of new guys and I think now that they’ve learned a lot from this experience, they are going to be a scary group come Season 95.”

Wangs-Letran coach Jeff Napa, however, is tempering expectations for now.

“Thank you sa comment na ’yun pero hindi naman ’yun ang gusto naming mangyari. Kung ’yun ang tingin sa amin, paninidigan namin ’yun. Pero hindi ’yun ang main target namin. Right now, talagang gusto namin mag-improve ng mag-improve coming sa season namin at maging ready kami,” said Napa.

Napa rued their inability to finish the game after coming back in the fourth quarter.

“Actually, ineexpect namin manalo. Hindi lang napunta sa amin ’yung breaks of the game. Gawa uli kami ng adjustments para hindi kami mag-collapse. Kailangan kami maging consistent na ’yun,” said Napa.

Wangs-Letran began the Aspirants Cup with two straight wins before bowing to Zark’s-LPU.
