Letran looks to get back on track, takes on Lyceum in battle of midtable squads in NCAA 92
Jeff Napa and the Knights hope to avoid a third straight loss.

LETRAN eyes a solid start to the second round when it takes on Lyceum in the NCAA Season 92 basketball eliminations at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The reigning champion Knights hold a 5-4 win-loss record in fifth place, while the Pirates are in joint sixth with a 4-5 card. The game starts at 4 p.m.

Letran ended the first round with back-to-back losses to Lyceum and Mapua, but Letran coach Jeff Napa is confident the Knights can turn things around with Rey Nambatac leading the charge.

“May nine games pa, so kailangan lang maka-bounce back ang mga bata,” said Napa.

“As a leader ng team, kailangan ko maging example sa kanila. Hindi pwede nakaupo lang ako, kailangan positive pa din ako sa kanila, lahat ng approach ko gagawin ko para sa kanila at sa ikabubuti nila.”

Nambatac is leading the league in scoring with an average of 22.7 points per game, but Napa noted other players are also making an effort to contribute.

“Nakita ko naman na binigay ng mga bata yung best effort nila, hindi lang naging maganda ’yung turnaround ng game,” said Napa, referring to Letran’s 79-75 loss to Mapua when they failed to hold on to a 12-point lead.

Lyceum has been one of the most surprising teams of the season, winning three straight in the first round thanks to double-double machine Mike Nzeusseu.

In the first game, Mapua guns for its seventh win when it takes on Jose Rizal University at 2 p.m.

Fresh from its win against Letran, the Cardinals are looking to begin the second round on a high note against the Heavy Bombers, who stunned San Beda at the end of the first round.
