IN an NCAA Slam Dunk contest filled with botched throwdowns, Arellano's Lervin Flores provided the entertainment - with the help from comedian and judge Empoy Marquez.

In the final round, Flores leaped over Letran foe Ranato Ular, sportscaster Andrei Felix, and Marquez to the delight of the crowd at the Filoil Flying V Centre on Friday.

The hefty forward got a perfect score from judges Jimmy Alapag, Bobby Ray Parks Jr., actress Ria Atayde, Marquez, and NCAA Press Corps president Cedelf Tupas to beat Ular and Justin Gutan of Benilde and emerge as the new Slam Dunk champion.

"Pinaghandaan ko talaga," said a jubilant Flores, who raised Marquez after winning the plum.

"Nilakasan ko lang loob ko para sa final round, si Empoy tsaka si Ular at si Andrei. Yun nga, pinpractice ko talaga. Ginagawa ko, tatlong tao pa minsan."

The three advanced to the final round, with the rest of their foes missing all their dunks in the elimination round.

After an impressive opening round, Ular botched all his off-the-glass throwndowns in the final round. Gutang then wowed the crowd with a 360 slam but Flores stole the show from there.

Other participants were Jed Sarmiento (Jose Rizal University), Eugene Toba (San Beda), Yancy Remulla (Lyceum), Christian Bugarin (Emilio Aguinaldo College), Allyn Bulanadi (San Sebastian), and Lervin Lucente (Perpetual).
