KENT Salado knew that he just had to take matters in his own hands after nearly handing Jose Rizal University the victory in regulation.

So when the opportunity came to make up for his mishap, he made sure not to let go of it.

Salado drained the floater with 0.2 seconds to life Arellano past Jose Rizal University 73-72 in overtime on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Center.

The Arellano main man flubbed two free throws in the closing moments of regulation, which allowed JRU's Jed Mendoza to send the game to overtime. But Salado took it upon himself to make sure that those misses won't come back to haunt him in the end.

"Oo, gusto ko kunin yun eh. Kasi sinabi din nung inbound, sakin nga bibigay. Kahit ano mangyari," said Salado who finished with 25 points, eight assists and six rebounds for the match.

"Nagsisi ako kasi yun nga, hindi na-shoot. Naisip ko nga, panalo na. Yun, natirahan kami ng three points. Yun, nakabawi naman," he added.

The Chiefs star guard also believes that it was a way of making up for what he felt like what should have been a non-call on the prior play, which allowed Mendoza to push JRU ahead with a split.

"Sa akin lang, wala akong foul nun. Kasi alam ko nandun si Lervin, papasupalpal ko sa kanya. Nasupalpal niya, kaso may foul. Pinadaan ko kaso yun nga, may foul," he continued.

At the end of the day, Salado still believes that he was blessed to be able to hit that shot, despite being swarmed by the Jose Rizal defense in the end.

Sometimes, luck also has a way of making up to people.

"Siguro masasabi ko lang na naswertahan lang ako kasi wala ng oras eh, dapat kong itira. Yun nga, naka-challenge pa yung import. Naswertehan lang talaga ako."
