Kent Salado, Jio Jalalon show way as Chiefs down JRU, tighten grip on top spot

KENT Salado and Jio Jalalon showed the way as Arellano beat Rizal University, 79-68, on Tuesday in the NCAA basketball tournament at the Filoil Foying V Centre.

Salado topscored for the Chiefs with 22 points, while Jalalon had an all-around outing with 18 points, six rebounds, and 11 assists.

Arellano solidified its hold on the top spot with a 13-3 record while putting the Heavy Bombers on the brink of elimination with a 9-8 card.

Donal Gumaru had 11 points and Lervin Flores added seven for Arellano.

"Yung focus namin andun from start to end," said Arellano coach Jerry Codinera.

Paolo Pontejos fired 24 points with four rebounds and four assists, but that was not enough to help the Heavy Bombers get over the hump.

Jordan Dela Paz added 15 points, while Abdoulad Poutouochi and Teytey Teodoro combined for 24 points for the Bombers, who dropped to 9-8.
