KENT Salado took charge for Arellano in handing Mapua its first loss, 96-75, on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 92 basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Salado had 20 points and nine rebounds as the Chiefs got back to their winning ways after losing to Letran last week, doing so despite Jio Jalalon failing to hit double figures for the first time this season.

Arellano improved 3-1, while Mapua fell to 4-1.

Jalalon, who averaged 24 points in the Chiefs’ first three outings, went scoreless for the first three quarters and finished with eight points, seven rebounds, and nine assists. The Chiefs hardly missed his heavy scoring.

With Salado scoring 12 in the third quarter, the Chiefs outscored the Cardinals, 33-22, to take a 66-51 lead.

Mapua import Allwell Oraeme had nine points and 11 boards in his first game back after missing a game with the flu, fouling out at the three-minute mark of the third period.

Coach Jerry Codinera was satisfied with how the Chiefs bounced back.

“Ang ganda ng linaro nila. Talagang sinundan nila lahat after that tough loss sa Letran. Down the down ‘yung energy nila nun, buti nakadepensa kay Oraeme kasi lagi kaming outplayed,” said Codinera.

Andoy Estrella had 20 points for Mapua.
