Meneses on JRU's 'ugly win' vs EAC: 'We will be out of the top four with the way we are playing'

JOSE Rizal University coach Vergel Meneses stressed that his team is still far from being a Final Four contender despite their thrilling win on Thursday, as the Heavy Bombers continue to look for answers on how to turn things around in NCAA Season 92.

The Heavy Bombers got back on the winning track thanks to Teytey Teodoro, who scored the game-winning jumper to lift his team to a 60-59 victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College. But Meneses was far from impressed.

“Honestly, wala akong nakitang positive, the way we played,” said Meneses. “It means that we are still not in the level of (the likes of) Mapua and San Beda. Ibig sabihin, para talaga kami sa baba.”

Meneses noted that JRU’s bigs got outplayed by the duo of Sidney Onwubere and Hamadou Laminou, who combined for 32 points and 33 rebounds for EAC. Laminou even had eight blocks against none from their pair of bigs Abdul Razak Abdul Wahab and Abdoul Poutouchi.

“It means that our big men were outhustled by their big men. It means hindi naiintimidate ‘yung ibang teams sa big men namin,” Meneses said.

The outspoken coach was even straightforward in sharing his thoughts on his team's chances for the season.

“I think we will be out of the top four the way we are playing. Instead of improving against CSB, we were up by LPU, and we lost. Now, we played bad. We were up by 11, then they started getting offensive rebounds,” said Meneses.
