LSGH Greenies win triple-overtime thriller over Red Cubs to reach NCAA juniors finals

JOEL Cagulangan scored 29 points as La Salle Greenhills advanced to the NCAA Season 93 juniors basketball finals with a 110-108 triple overtime win over San Beda on Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Cagulangan made a basket with 59 seconds left in the third overtime for a 105-103 lead and the Greenies held on to arrange a battle with Mapua in the best-of-three finals set to begin on Friday.

It will be the first time the San Beda high school squad will miss the finals since 2008.

Cagulangan, who played a total of 51 minutes, forced the third overtime after hitting a triple with 4.2 seconds on the clock.

Joshua David tallied 18 points, while Inand Fornilos added 16 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks as the Greenies made it to the finals for the first time since 2011.

"Until now, medyo hindi pa nagsi-sink in sa amin. The boys gave their everything," said LSGH coach Marvin Bienvenida.

Evan Nelle contributed 26 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for the Red Cubs but suffered cramps numerous times in the end game. Nelle is one of 13 graduating San Beda players.

The closely-contested match took its toll, with several players suffering from cramps, including four players all at the same time.
