Arellano Chiefs move to solo third with easy victory over hapless Lyceum Pirates

ARELLANO beat Lyceum, 97-83, on Tuesday as the Chiefs scored their third straight victory in the NCAA Season 91 seniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Jiovani Jalalon had a quiet 18 points but three others scored in double figures to power the Chiefs to their ninth victory in 13 games.

Dioncee Holts had 16 points, Donald Gumaru scored 14 and David Ortega added 11 for Arellano.

“’Yun ’yung game na na-control namin from start to finish,” said Arellano coach Jerry Codinera. “It’s always in the back of our mind ’yung upset. Mahirap na mangyari sa amin. Lagi ko silang pinupush to stick to the basics.”

The Chiefs took solo third place, breaking a tie with University of Perpetual Help, which has an 8-4 win-loss card.

“We’ll continue to build up. We will use this opportunity to solidify and enhance their performance,” Codinera added.

Wilson Baltazar had 19 points for the Pirates, who suffered their 10th loss in 13 outings.
