SAN Beda was made to sweat but ultimately showed championship composure as it outlasted Jose Rizal University, 65-60, to remain red-hot in the NCAA Season 93 on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Center.

Davon Potts proved that he's still one of the best performers when the game is on the line as he nailed the all-important baskets to douse cold water on the JRU uprising.

Trailing by one with after an Aaron Bordon three, Potts answered by firing two three-pointers as the Red Lions retook control of the game.

His final three from the corner gave the Red Lions a 62-57 lead with 3:14 remaining.

The Red Lions then limited the Heavy Bombers down the stretch to three points to finish off JRU for good.

It was another close shave for the Red Lions which led by as many 18, 28-10, early in the second quarter.

But Jed Mendoza came out firing in the third as the Heavy Bombers retook the lead and set up an interesting finish between the two clubs.

Luckily for the defending champions, their winning pedigree was in full display late.

“It’s really our defense that helped us win this game, the worst thing that happened was we gave up 27 points in the third quarter,” said San Beda head coach Boyet Fernandez.

“Frankly, if we lost this game, the blame is on me. It’s my fault if we lost this game and credit to coach Vergel Meneses and JRU for playing a good game,” he added.

Javee Mocon had another stellar outing with 19 points, 15 rebounds and five assists. Potts finished with 14, draining four of his eight three pointers, as Donald Tankoua also had a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards.

Mendoza paced the Heavy Bombers with 16 points while Abdulrazak Abdulwahab added 11 points and nine rebounds.

The win marked San Beda's 11th straight, 12-1 in all, as they kept in step with the 13-0 Lyceum. With the victory however, the Red Lions lent a helping hand to the Pirates as Lyceum formally clinched the first twice to beat berth.

The Heavy Bombers, meanwhile, fell to 7-6.
