SAN Beda and Jamike Jarin are “perfect” for each other.

That’s what Red Lions rookie Radge Tongco believes as he reunites with his Philippine youth team coach in the collegiate ranks.

The promising playmaker is familiar with the style of Jarin, having played under the 44-year-old mentor in the national 18-under team in the Fiba Asia championship last August.

“He loves (for us) to play D and run and gun on offense, which I see would be perfect (for us) because as we all know, San Beda is a running team,” Tongco said in a chat with Spin.ph a day after Jarin was formally introduced as the new man at the helm of the Red Lions.

“I’ve not doubt the team would welcome him and his system easily because he’s really a good coach,” the Batang Gilas star added. “I’m looking forward to this.”

The 18-year-old Tongco, who averaged 4.6 points, 1.2 boards, and 1.2 assists in 14.4 minutes in his rookie year in the NCAA, expressed eagerness to work with Jarin anew as the Lions aim for a historic sixth straight crown in the country’s oldest collegiate league next season.

“I’m very excited to be coached again by coach Jamike, but this time for my alma mater.”

“He’s very disciplined, pero he knows how to have fun. Pag business, business. Pero outside the court, he’s fun to be with.”

“When it comes to coaching style, he’s very positive and a motivator,” he added. “He wants his players to improve and get better not only in basketball, but in life.”
