EMILIO Aguinaldo College his a major setback in the preparations for NCAA Season 93 as star center Hamadou Laminou will be sidelined for at least six weeks with a knee injury.

The Cameroonian foreign reinforcement hurt his left knee in a 61-59 loss to University of the Philippines last Wednesday and missed their 78-70 victory over College of St. Benilde on Friday.

The team's biggest fear was confirmed as the MRI came back positive for a medial collateral ligamentinjury, ruling him out of preseason tournaments.

"Five to six weeks rest daw so hopefully, makabalik siya before NCAA opening," said EAC head coach Ariel Sison.

It is a big blow to the Generals, tagged as one of the dark horses for the NCAA with a team loaded with veterans.

Now they will have to prepare for the NCAA, which is set to open on July 8, without the 22-year-old big man with the hopes of him getting back in shape soon.

Despite Laminou's injury, skipper Sydney Onwubere remains optimistic about the Generals’ chances and urged the local big men to step-up.

"It's all good I'm sure the team will adjust and some of are big guys will step up big time while Laminou is out."
