Gerard Castor shines as St. Benilde Blazers defeat Lyceum Pirates in battle of NCAA also-rans

GERARD Castor had 14 points, nine rebounds, and two steals as College of Saint Benilde beat Lyceum, 59-56, on Thursday in the NCAA Season 91 men’s basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Blazers won for the second straight time for a 5-12 win-loss slate.

CSB coach Gabby Velasco was pleased to see Castor step up and help stabilize the backcourt in the battle of bottom teams.

“We have to step up sa guard position. Good thing Castor was there today. He was really different. All throughout the season, struggling kami sa position na ‘yun. Hopefully, we could develop something here,” said Velasco.

“There were really bad calls, no calls on our part. Coming into this game, we want to prove ourselves that we deserve to win,” said Velasco.

Jonathan Grey had 13 points, while JR Ongteco added 12 points for the Blazers.

Joseph Gabayni finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds for Lyceum, which ended its season with a 4-14 win-loss slate.
