Garvo Lanete bags PBA Player of Week award thanks to his clutch games for Bolts
Garvo Lanete put on a clutch performance in Meralco's win over Ginebra. Clems Dela Cruz

GARVO Lanete stood tall in two games Meralco couldn't afford to lose to earn the PBA Press Corps Player of the Week nod.

The sweet-shooting wingman out of San Beda averaged 21.5 points while knocking down seven triples in narrow victories over Phoenix and Ginebra that kept the Bolts' flickering playoff chances alive in the Philippine Cup.

Lanete, 24, pumped in 24 points while going 4-of-9 from three-point zone in the 92-90 win over Phoenix on Valentine’s Day. Four days later, he scored 19 points as the Bolts nipped Ginebra, 84-82 at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

Lanete won the weekly award for the period of Feb. 12-18, beating Magnolia forward Rome dela Rosa, the San Miguel trio of June Mar Fajardo, Chris Ross and Arwind Santos as well as NLEX guard Kevin Alas.

What made the win even more satisfying was the fact that the Bolts accomplished it without injured veterans Ranidel de Ocampo, Cliff Hodge and Jared Dillinger.
